WEA Illawarra is now seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably experienced persons to serve on its Board in a voluntary capacity.
The Vacancy
We have one Director position available for a three-year term, via election by the Members of the Company at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (to be held 28 May 2025).
We are seeking expressions of interest for this volunteer role. A subcommittee of the Board will review expressions of interest, organise interviews with suitable candidates and oversee the due diligence and background checks required. Information about shortlisted suitable candidates will be circulated to the Members with the notice of AGM, 21 days prior to the meeting.
About You
Candidates for the position of Director must have the following personal attributes:
- Meaningful engagement with and personal commitment to WEA Illawarra vision, purpose and values. A Director must be an active contributor to the strategic direction of the organisation and have a genuine interest in its growth, development and success.
- Integrity. A Director must act ethically and with appropriate independence, exercise sensitivity, discretion and manage confidential information.
- Ability and desire to work respectfully and collaboratively with others. Diverse viewpoints are actively encouraged, and Directors must know how to reach consensus on key issues and develop creative solutions. Directors must ensure inclusivity and culturally safe practices and communication.
- Curiosity and analytical thinking. A Director must be able seek out necessary information, probe, ask questions and engage with fellow Board members to understand key issues and make strategic decisions.
- Emotional intelligence. A Director must be self-aware, with well-developed self-management and interpersonal skills, including active listening and clear communication of viewpoints.
- Commercial judgement and instinct. A Director must demonstrate good business acumen, be able to assess complex information and apply this to assist the organisation to achieve its strategic goals.
