Materials

BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO CLASS WITH YOU

For Watercolour Class
Please note, if you are an established watercolour artist or have tried watercolour before, then your existing equipment should be sufficient.
As a minimum, you will need watercolour paper, paints, brush and a container for water.
Refer to the list below if in doubt. Further equipment will be discussed in class.


Equipment List
Paints: 1 x set of Watercolour Paints: “pans” (hard pigments) OR tubes (soft pigments). Tubes are preferred.
Basic colours will be needed e.g. Yellow, Red, Crimson, Blue (dark)
*Note: Black and White are not basic/essential colours however, should you wish to include these colours then; “Paynes Grey” is preferred over Black; and Titanium White in “Gouache” medium is preferred over Watercolour White

Brushes: 2 x Brushes: 1 x soft brush: size 10 -12, with round or pointed end. Must be a soft brush of natural hair or synthetic fibre; NOT hard bristle. Plus, 1 x “Rigger” or detail brush: size 0.

Paper: Watercolour pad: size A4, Medium texture, and 200 – 300 gsm weight.

Palette: Must be a palette that will hold wells of water. Choices can include:
• “Sectioned,” plastic palettes are most appropriate; refer to picture above
• White Plastic picnic plates; large size, white, and must be smooth bottomed (ALDI)
• Plain White ceramic/china dinner plate
Also: 2 squat/small jars to hold water
Rag, or small hand towel, or kitchen paper

And, “If you have them, bring them”: Small sketch book, hard/light pencil (H or 2B), Rubber (white or “Kneaded”), small synthetic (cosmetic) sponge or small sea sponge.

*All the above equipment can be sourced cheaply from inexpensive Art Supply stores, “$2 Shops”, “Riot Art and Craft”, “Officeworks” etc.


All students MUST wear closed in shoes and an apron to protect clothing is suggested.

50 - 56 Auburn Street, Wollongong

PARKING
There is plenty of parking onsite but please DO NOT TURN RIGHT into the carpark. You could endanger yourself, any passengers and any others on the road.

The centre should be approached from the South, either at the south end of Auburn Street, or by turning into Auburn Street from Swan or West Streets.

FOOD AND DRINK
There is a Zip Tap available for those who wish to BYO cup plus tea/coffee/milk supplies.

Please bring all other food requirements with you and for WEEKEND courses ensure you BYO lunch and snacks.

CONFIRMATION OF COURSE and PURCHASE OF MATERIALS
At times WEA must cancel classes due to lack of enrolments. To avoid undue costs please do not purchase any materials until your course has been confirmed as going ahead.

Please call the WEA office on phone: 4226 1622 three days prior to the commencement of the class to confirm that it will be going ahead.

NO SMOKING AT WEA
Please note that WEA is a smoke-free business and smoking is not allowed in the building in the carparks or in any outside area on WEA property.
