Disability & Accessibility

Disability & Special Needs

WEA Illawarra aims to support individuals with additional needs in as many ways as possible.
When enrolling into a course we ask that students disclose any physical or additional needs that they might have so that we can provide the most suitable classroom, resources and additional support if needed.

WEA Illawarra’s site has wheelchair access and disability facilities available. The main office on Auburn Street ensures accessibility to upstairs classrooms via a lift in the main foyer, and classrooms on the lowest level have driveway access. Classes in our Kitchen also have access to the room via a lift.

We have experience supporting people with many different additional needs and will work with you to aim to accommodate your needs.

NDIS Clients and Leisure Skills Courses

The NDIS is a national scheme which supports people with a disability, their families and carers. Many of our Leisure Skills courses are suitable for NDIS clients as they offer an opportunity for social and community participation.

If required, students may be accompanied by a companion, provided the classroom can accommodate an additional person.

Please note: WEA Illawarra is unable to invoice the NDIS directly. Students will need to pay for the course upfront and then seek reimbursement from the NDIS, if eligible under their plan.

Please contact WEA Illawarra on (02) 4226 1622 to find out more information.

NDIS Clients and Work Skills Courses

Qualifications as well as individual subjects (unit of competency) or groups of subjects are available to people with additional needs. We have trainers experienced in working with people with disabilities and other additional needs.

You may attend one of our self-paced courses or join a small class providing additional focused support.

We also work with organisations supporting people with disabilities or other additional needs, to provide classes to meet specific needs and interests. These may be conducted on the WEA Illawarra site or on a site requested by the organisation. Please speak to our team regarding what funding options are available.

You can begin your qualification at any time - no need to wait for term dates or scheduled inductions. Enrol when it suits you, and once your enrolment is approved and processed, we’ll coordinate a start date that works for you
