About Course

This 4 week course is designed for both beginner and intermediate painters. The course aims to start and gradually build the fundamental principles of 2 dimensional painting specialising in either oil or acrylic techniques. Intermediate students will be asked to re-establish basic principles and then encouraged to extend their expertise and development.

Materials

BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO CLASS WITH YOU (choose either Acrylic or Oil Painting).

EQUIPMENT FOR ACRYLIC PAINTING:
12 x 16 inch (approx.) canvas board
16 x 20 inch stretched canvas
A4 Sketch pad
6B and B pencil
Kneadable rubber
A variety of soft synthetic painting brushes (Bristle brushes OK too); differing sizes from large square end to small round and pointed, or any “Starter” brush sets
Any Palette OR, 2 -3 white plastic picnic plates (smooth bottom) * Plastic plates preferred option
2 x squat jars or strong plastic containers (for water)
1 x small bottle Acrylic “Retarder” (to slow down drying process)
1 Rag and/or roll of kitchen paper
1 tube of hair shampoo (for cleaning brushes)
ACRYLIC PAINT COLOURS: White, Cadmium Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red (true red), Phthalo or Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Paynes Grey (if available, or Black), OR/ Any beginner’s set of good quality acrylic paints.

EQUIPMENT FOR OIL PAINTING:
12 x 16 inch (approx.) canvas board
16 x 20 inch stretched canvas
A4 Sketch pad
6B and B pencil
Kneadable rubber
A variety of soft synthetic painting brushes (Bristle brushes OK too); differing sizes from large square end to small round and pointed, or any “Starter” brush sets
Any Palette OR, 2 -3 white plastic picnic plates (smooth bottom) * Plastic plates preferred option
2 x squat jars with good lids
1 x bottle Artist Quality Odourless Turpentine
1 Rag and/or roll of kitchen paper
1 tube of hair shampoo (for cleaning brushes)

OIL PAINT COLOURS: 37-40ml tubes (minimum colours to get started):
Titanium white, Cadmium yellow, Yellow ochre
Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Pthalo blue, Cerulean blue, Paynes grey, (NO BLACK)
OR, any Beginner’s oil painting “Starter” set.

All students MUST wear closed in shoes

WHERE YOUR CLASS IS HELD
50 - 56 Auburn Street, Wollongong

PARKING
There is plenty of parking onsite but please DO NOT TURN RIGHT into the carpark. You could endanger yourself, any passengers and any others on the road.

The centre should be approached from the South, either at the south end of Auburn Street, or by turning into Auburn Street from Swan or West Streets.

FOOD AND DRINK
There is a Zip Tap available for those who wish to BYO cup plus tea/coffee/milk supplies.

Please bring all other food requirements with you and for WEEKEND courses ensure you BYO lunch and snacks.

CONFIRMATION OF COURSE and PURCHASE OF MATERIALS
At times WEA must cancel classes due to lack of enrolments. To avoid undue costs please do not purchase any materials until your course has been confirmed as going ahead.

Please call the WEA office on phone: 4226 1622 three days prior to the commencement of the class to confirm that it will be going ahead.

NO SMOKING AT WEA
Please note that WEA is a smoke-free business and smoking is not allowed in the building in the carparks or in any outside area on WEA property.
