Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP)
What is it?
This program aims to support skilled migrants, who are unable to find work in their area of expertise because they face specific barriers, to overcome the barriers and find work.
These barriers may include their lack of knowledge about Australian job seeking processes and workplaces, a lack of work experience or the employer’s lack of recognition of overseas qualifications.
Can I join this program?
To be eligible for the program you must meet the following criteria:
Have you:
- come to Australia as a skilled migrant with a profession or trade qualification that has been recognised in Australia?
- got a first language other than English?
- been recognised as being a permanent resident of Australia?
- arrived in Australia in the last five years?
- got English-language skills at ISLPR 3/3+ or IELTS 6.0 or above (ie. you have work-ready English skills)
- got the ability to undertake a minimum of 70 hours (part-time or full-time) unpaid work experience.
You will also need to sign a learning agreement to begin and complete the program.
